Update

I have been MIA from here and from reading for a while for good reasons. I had a change in jobs, same place just different position and then in October I started to have some health issues that left me in a lot of pain. I have things figured out and had surgery so I'm home for a month recovering from that. I'm doing well, but this health issue is not going to go away. So hopefully this does give me more time to read books.

I have a review that I need to write from like this summer on In Fraction and then I am currently reading two books, 1) Supergirls by Mike Madrid and 2) A Dance of Dragons by George H.R. Martian. Both are long and heavy so it's taking time to read them. I hoped to get them finished here by the end of the year.

I also was going to write about it, but I guess I never did on my trip to my first book signing. Felicia Day wrote a memoir and I have been a big fan of her's. When I saw that she was going to be in town signing I pre-ordered my book and got her to sign it. I have a cute photo of myself and husband with her. It was a little crazy, but a lot of fun to meet her for like 3 seconds.

So hope all is doing well and please stay safe and try to be one of the good people this holiday season.

The Horde Review

I've been meaning to read this book and finish this trilogy for a while now and I finally have time for it. I also been putting off reading this book because I was a little annoyed with the second book.

Synopsis: The horde is coming.

Salvation is surrounded, monsters at the gates, and this time, they're not going away. When Deuce, Fade, Stalker and Tegan set out, the odds are against them. But the odds have been stacked against Deuce from the moment she was born. She might not be a Huntress anymore, but she doesn't run. With her knives in hand and her companions at her side, she will not falter, whether fighting for her life or Fade's love.

Ahead, the battle of a lifetime awaits. Freaks are everywhere, attacking settlements, setting up scouts, perimeters, and patrols. There hasn't been a war like this in centuries, and humans have forgotten how to stand and fight. Unless Deuce can lead them.

This time, however, more than the fate of a single enclave or outpost hangs in the balance. This time, Deuce carries the banner for the survival of all humanity. (From GoodReads)

Review: I actually really enjoyed this book. I was dissatisfied with the 2nd book due to Deuce seeming a bit warrior princess to me. This book fixed all of that and made me really want the best for our characters. I enjoyed how to book turned out and was kind of sad to see it end. It was wrapped up pretty nicely at the end, but still it made you happy for everyone.

I give this book

Playing Catch Up

I have been able to get so many of my books read that I started last year. Earlier I got Lies My Teacher Told Me finished and now I got 2 more books I started last summer finished as well as the 3rd book of the Game of Thrones series.

Survival Medicine Book I started this book last summer. I wanted to read it so I could get some idea of what to do in case the world ends and we need someone who might have an idea what to do. It's not a hard read, but it took me a long time to finish it. I just had times I didn't want to read it.
My rating:

Storm of Swords I started this one as soon as I could. Didn't take me nearly as long as the first book. It's a good book and there's tons of deaths in this one. No wonder people remark on how many main characters die in the books. My rating:

My Zombie My I started this book last summer and just kept reading pieces of it here and then. It was a good book in the end, I just didn't seem to be able to get into it until more recently. My Rating:

Mockingjay Part One Trailer

So I will be late in posting this, but I'm a very busy girl. I wanted to share it here in case anyone hasn't seen it with my opinions about what we see.

Seeing this trailer makes me very excited for the movie to come out. I'm sure my husband will want to see it with me, but because I know I'll cry I don't want him to see that. I hate crying in front of people.

The biggest thing that stands out that I didn't recognize at first that kind of bothers me is Effie. I missed that she was in the trailer as well as a poster that was put out a while ago. I knew they say she's have a bigger role in the movie than in the book, but I didn't realized this was how they were going to do it. I think it's a mistake to put her in district 13. I remember the scene in the book where she and Katniss reunite when she is to kill President Snow.

Most everything else I can overlook and looks to be done so well. I love Katniss uniform. I had such trouble visualizing what it would look like. I am very impressed by it.

A Few Quick Book Reviews

Man has it been that long since I've reviewed the books I've finished reading. I'm slowly getting books read, but I didn't realized I have 3 books to review. Since that is the case I will quickly review them here and mention what I am currently reading.

The Monuments Men
Yes the nerdy historian in me had to read this book before I saw the movie. This book is a very well written book that the non history love will enjoy. It tells an interesting story about the men and woman who saved thousands of art treasures and artifacts that Hitler tried to hide and destroy.

My Rating:

Gone Girl

I had such high hopes for this book due the hype it had received. I was very disappointed and felt like I was lied to. I did not see how this book got such a following. Yes, it's twist is unexpected, but I don't think it was that great.

My Rating:

Flash and Bone

I finally started reading this series. This book wasn't as bad as others have been. It was a quick read and I didn't want to throw it across the room. It will probably be a while until I read the next books.

My Rating:

Soulless
This book is such a new twist on the vampire/werewolf genre that we've seen recently. It is written well and I think it needs to be recognized for how it's pulled the boring old stories of vampires and werewolf's out of that.

My Rating:

Currently I am read: Game of Thrones, My Zombie My, Alpha Farm and Changeless.

The Burn Review

Look who's back with a book review!! Sorry it's been a while, but some how I have less time for reading now that I am out of school. I know it sounds backwards, but it's true.

Synopsis: When the world was about to break into WWIII a group of scientists and others create an underwater world to ensure they survive. Terra was born into the underwater colony. Despite how safe she is there, she feels like she needs to escape it.  When she finally does, The Burn as the US is now called is nothing like she thought it would be.

Review: I happen to come across the book while looking for fiction mermaid books. Not sure why this came up, but once I read that synopsis I was hooked. I never thought of an underwater  post apocalyptic setting. While not much of the book take place underwater and the colony is very sterile it is still a good read.

Okay maybe a l tiny bit of me was hoping this would turn out to be a little like Bioshock. It wasn't, but like I said this is a setting I haven't seen yet. This book is a quick read. It wasn't until I got closer to finish it and when they showed other books by this author that I realized this is an actual series. I could tell with how little progression had gone on that there had to be more books. So there are, which I have bought the next one because I am very curious to see what happens next.

While this book is decent it's not one of my top books. It's a new idea yes, but quickly it goes with the normal post apocalyptic world. I enjoy, but I was looking forward to an interesting new take on the genre. I think if you want a quick read that isn't too depressing then pick this book up.

Working on books

Well soon I should be finally done with two books. I keep reading Game of Thrones and then putting it down because of how long it's taking me to progress.

I'm almost done with a book called The Burn which is a dystopian book which is pretty good so far. I believe I'm about 75% through it and it's a fast read. I'llbe reviewing   that one soon.

The other book that I'm reading and I'm about 52% through called The Monuments Men. It's a nonfiction book about the men and woman who during WWII tried to save and find artwork and other cultural items from the Nazis. I have seen the movie yet because I wanted to finish the book first.

Also novel ideas for nanowrimo are coming in. Actually they're just novel ideas that I can use to try actually finish a novel. Who knows if I'll get it done but today it's been on my mind
